Capitol Weekly Profile on Nathan Fletcher
California Assembly District 75
Nathan Fletcher, R-San Diego
For coastal San Diego County, Nathan Fletcher is a solid mix. A political conservative
with a military background that includes service in Iraq... this decorated former
U.S. Marine Corps reservist seems a good fit in this GOP stronghold. Fletcher,
who served eight months in Iraq in 2004, is a graduate of the US Army Airborne
Course and Marine Corps' Mountain Warfare Training Center.
There's more: He's an ironman triathlete... mountain climber and a mountain
biker.
But mixed with the military is the political: He served the Republican Party
in senior positions, and worked for the International Republican Institute in
Asia and the Balkans.
He's also on the short list of the GOP's emerging stars, and he can count on
some good career counseling: His wife, Mindy Fletcher, was a deputy campaign
manager for Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger and, before that, served in President
Bush's campaign staff and in his administration at the Department of Justice.
The couple, members of the Community Bible Church, has one son, Zach.
