Biographical Profile

Ernie Cowan serves as the Vice President of Government Affairs for the North San Diego County Association of Realtors, a professional trade association serving the needs of nearly 7,000 real estate professionals.

His duties include working closely with the mayors and city council members of the eight North County cities, the County Board of Supervisors, state and federal legislators on issues that affect real estate consumers and industry professionals.

He brings a strong perspective to his duties, having served as an Escondido City Councilman and Mayor for eight years. He has a strong background in business, government and journalism.

His leadership achievements include serving as board chairman of the Escondido Chamber of Commerce, chairman of the California Government Affairs Directors Group and former chairman of the San Diego Association of Governments (SANDAG).

He is an avid outdoorsman and weekly outdoor writer for the North County Times. He spends his free time fly fishing in the High Sierra or enjoying nature photography in the Anza-Borrego Desert.

Ernie has been a member of the San Diego County Sheriff’s Search and Rescue team for nearly 20 years and is a popular guest speaker on a variety of topics.

As a North County resident for nearly 40 years, Ernie enjoys a wide perspective of the changes, issues, and people that have influenced our region.
