This election is about restoring integrity, transparency, and accountability to our government which is now bloated and abusive, rather than protective and respectful of our citizens.  Sadly, our legislature has become captive to special interests which threaten our values and freedoms.  Out-of-control spending at all government levels, often just to further the future prospects of career politicians, has brought California to the brink of bankruptcy.  We must create jobs immediately by resolutely holding the line on taxes and by reducing oppressive regulations to restore our business climate.  We must also protect our future by more efficiently preparing our youth for 21st Century jobs with updated educational opportunities.  These goals, however, cannot be met without upholding the rule-of-law regarding our borders and without conscientious cooperation with diverse interests whenever appropriate.  We must, we can, and we shall do better in Sacramento.

In 1970 I earned a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from the University of Kansas and a commission in the USAF.  In 1973 I earned my law degree from Duke University School of Law.  My Professional Military Education includes graduation from the Air War College, National Security Management Course and Air Command and Staff College.

I am a retired military attorney (Judge Advocate, Lt Col. USAF) currently teaching law courses as an adjunct professor for Mt. San Jacinto College.  I have also been a Trustee for the Murrieta Valley Unified School District for about twelve years and served with several community organizations on their boards or as officers boards including The Salvation Army, The Gideons International, the Lincoln Club of Southwest Riverside County and the Golden Valley Music Society.  I have been married to Susan V. Dickson for 37 years; we have two children and four grandchildren.

For the better part of 30 years as an Air Force attorney at both Base level and Major Air command levels I was responsible for protecting the budget and upholding the integrity of a very fine organization.  Through both educational and professional experience I have had the opportunity to develop qualifications for serving the citizens of the 36th Senate District that are superior to those of my opponents and I am prepared, willing and able to be your alternative to “politics as usual” in Sacramento.

The voters of California’s 36th State Senate District deserve an effective voice in Sacramento. The people of East San Diego and South Riverside Counties deserve a representative who’s priority will be to make their concerns heard and acted upon, above all else. I will be that representative and if you send me to Sacramento I will discharge my duties, not looking to be a professional politician, but rather a public servant to make California the ‘Golden State’ once more.

Greg Stephens – Candidate for State Senate 36th District

Born in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, on April 16, 1961 to hard-working middle class parents, Greg Stephens grew up in a home where service to community and country was looked upon as a solemn obligation – not an option. He grew up with industrious, self-reliant, and patriotic examples all around him.

From 1983 through 2001, Greg worked as a television producer and director. He won three Telly Awards for outstanding broadcasting and journalistic achievements.

Although his career in T.V. was going well, Greg wanted to do more for his country. In 1987, he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force as a member of the Air National Guard. He was deployed three separate times – to Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and Iraq – as an Air Evacuation Medic during Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm. Back home, Greg was called to serve his country again. On April 19, 1995, his military training proved extremely valuable when he was activated as a first responder to the Oklahoma City Bombing. He assisted in the evacuation and recovery of hundreds of innocent victims from the wreckage of the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building. Greg received numerous awards and in 1997 was honorably discharged as a decorated Tech Sergeant.

Greg’s experiences in war and homeland security heightened his appreciation for his country and strengthened his conviction that America must do everything within its power to protect its citizens.

In 2001, Greg followed in his father’s and grandfather’s footsteps and became a pastor. He and his family relocated to Southern California to lead Father’s House Church in La Mesa. Since then, Father’s House has grown ten-fold and now serves people from all around San Diego County.

As Pastor, Greg supports the San Diego community in a number of ways. For example, his church operates a program through which local grocery stores donate excess food items to families in need. Being an advocate for youth and education, Greg works closely with Liberty and Literacy First Charter Schools and others to help provide parents with better options for their children’s educations. But Greg doesn’t limit his service to local causes. He spearheaded efforts benefiting groups that provide humanitarian relief to individuals being persecuted in the Sudan. He helped start a school in Monrovia, Liberia. He traveled twice to Ethiopia on humanitarian missions. He sponsors orphanages and schools in Israel, Nepal and the Philippines both financially and through organizing charitable events.

Over the years, Greg has spoken with dozens of families who feel let down by Sacramento’s failed programs and false promises. In 2009, he heard another call to service: to help make California a better place for its families and businesses. He decided to run for the California Senate seat.

Greg knows it won’t be easy to fix Sacramento and the system that has disappointed and discouraged so many. But, he has never been afraid of a challenge. He is a true conservative and will fight for change for the better for the 36th Senate District and all of California.

Supervisor Jeff Stone serves the 3rd Supervisorial District in Riverside County, representing over 500,000 constituents.
Jeff is a common sense conservative running for the California State Senate. Proud that he is not obligated to any Sacramento Special Interests, Jeff believes it’s time to take a stand and reclaim California from the dysfunctional politicians at the state Capitol. His goal is to restore common sense, traditional values and conservative principles back to our state government.
Like President Ronald Reagan, Jeff believes that government is not the solution but instead it is usually the problem.
Appalled that the Legislature would burden families with more taxes, Jeff Stone in May 2009 mounted his own campaign against State Proposition 1A. Dubbed “No Way 1A”, he invested over $35,000 to defeat the measure and was named a statewide co-chairman against the outrageous tax hike.
Jeff is a prominent leader in public safety issues and has been endorsed by the Riverside County Sheriff’s Association since his days as a councilmember in Temecula.
Jeff supports the right of individuals to keep and bear arms to protect self, family and community, and like 36 other states that California should be a “shall-issue” concealed carry State.
He supports a strong national defense; he believes that our best defense starts with a secured international border. Jeff opposes illegal immigration and the huge financial burden it puts on taxpayers.
Jeff believes in individual liberty and also personal responsibility. He recognizes the sanctity of life, that life begins at conception and that abortion is wrong.
Jeff and his wife Regina live in Temecula and have three sons and one daughter.
He was born in Los Angeles in 1956 and raised in Anaheim - a town with hundreds of young hard-working families from all walks of life. Like so many other struggling married couples, Jeff’s father and mother lived very modestly in a 1,150 square foot, 3-bedroom home. Jeff, along with his younger sister Lori, attended local Anaheim public schools.
In 1981, now graduated from the University of Southern California with a Doctorate of Pharmacy, Jeff struck out on his own to build his career serving people as a Pharmacist and to start his family. He settled in the Temecula Valley, a peaceful family-focused region in Riverside County. In 1983, He opened his first of many successful neighborhood pharmacies, the Temecula Pharmacy.
In 1992, after a decade of success helping his patients live better through his passion as a Pharmacist, Jeff began to recognize the telltale signs of gang crime moving into his budding city. He was determined to defend the quality of life he and so many others enjoyed in the Temecula Valley, so he stepped forward into the public arena.
Jeff confronted the local city council to act against the blight of gangs and graffiti, only to be ignored; so he campaigned for City Council and defeated the Mayor pro-tem.
Jeff Stone’s accomplishments as a City Councilmember:
• Created California’s strictest anti-graffiti ordinance
• Created first responder program, cutting 911 emergency response times in half
• Created the first emergency vehicle automated GPS map system in California
• Created Temecula’s first Fallen Soldiers Veterans Memorial
• Created Temecula’s emergency reserve fund - still in existence today
• Created a plan to attract businesses, returning new revenue to taxpayers through reduced taxes - $48 million returned to-date
• Prompted City of Temecula endorsement of Prop. 22, the “Protection of Marriage Law”
In 2004, Jeff ran for County Board of Supervisors, defeating the incumbent, and was re-elected in 2008.
Jeff Stone’s accomplishments as a County Supervisor:
• Created the county’s emergency reserve fund
• Streamlined the county’s property assessment system to help financially distressed families keep their homes in this economic downturn
• Created the county’s new jail design, saving millions of dollars from the original proposal
• Created the county’s internet juvenile sexual predator interdiction program
• Created a neighborhood picketing regulation in response to the harassment of Prop. 8 “Protection of Marriage Constitutional Amendment” supporters by hostile gay marriage activists
Jeff Stone’s public service recognition:
• Distinguished Service Medal, 2009 – California National Guard Association
• Riverside County Man of the Year, 2009 – Habitat for Humanity
• Distinguished Leadership, Elected Official, 2008 – APA of California Inland Empire
• Family Values Award, 2007 – Church of Latter Day Saints, Menifee Stake
• Distinguished Citizen Good Scout of the Year, 2006 – Boy Scouts of America
• Honorary Membership, 2006 – Freedoms Foundation at Valley Forge
• Leadership Award, 2005 – Inland Empire Economic Partnership
• United States Selective Service Board, 1998 – Presidential Appointment
• Outstanding Leadership Award, 1997 – Temecula Community Services Commission
Join Jeff Stone for State Senate and help reclaim California for our children and our future.
